Director: this message Threading set about The Pacific Crest Trail
Please post only here to make it easier to find information.

So we finished up but only for a moment. Where do we start?

Before leaving the country.

Preparations before we can do in this country are mainly mentally can go to the website for Www.pct.org To read some general material into various newsgroups (which very nocdanity terant and as a temple of the Americans) and can surf the Web, mainly for me the Kings journals. one of these is the personal website of our friends who have all the trails in the u.s. (discussed) and lists of equipment including the weight of anything www.gottawalk.com/PCT2000/PCT2000.htm another site recommended is the site of a Yogi From the promenade for several times (and plans to do the same again in 2007) and wrote a number of very effective training "style wing www.pcthandbook.com Sasquatch (required).

In fact the Yogi is the only purchase we think you should do, and that's only if you won't have time to settle in and buy it there, or that you can't help wanting to know in advance what is expecting you.

In terms of fitness, you should preferably not with 50 extra pounds on a trip, and to practice as much as possible on Earth. Physical activity and fitness, however minimal they things to keep them regardless of a ProductID < st1: metricconverter = ' w:st = ' 4,000-mile "on" 4,000 km > actually nothing can really prepare you for walking in such magnitude out walking so although it is possible to go for walks in the country, and even better, but mostly to test the equipment for fitness, for buy you while walking difficult at first. Then practice. Moreover, in the days when we made a break of more than two or three days, we felt a difficulty in the early days. I.e. the walking purchased fitness Enhancer.

When start

The official start of the trail is at the "Kick off Held in the last weekend of April registration details on the website Www.siechert.org/adz This is the opening of the path and there is a lot of information and equipment is very cute and classy, really don't like the alcohol market " Trail days ". The location of this thing is in Lake Varna, < st1: metricconverter ProductID = "20" w:st email = "on" > 20 miles from the border, so that what happens is that people do the first 20 mile during the days of the party, and leave together for Sunday. What he created huge block travellers leaving together (about 300 people) called "the wave".

Hence it has been up to you whether you want to go with another 300 block, one empty water sources and hostels substances. Or you want to start only by a few days before, after all, can go quite alone.

We chose to begin Monday before the party and return to the event itself. We weren't alone, but on the other hand the water sources were depleted, and the towns were not exhausted from RAID of a town of 300 about 80 people.

Important considerations for the start date is the weather as opposed to AT The owner of the shlterim, in PCT. No shelter from the weather, so before for up-to-date, if she parked in rainy or wet years have less trouble to begin early in mid-May because there are chances, but as the days pass, water sources dry. Please note that the website PCTA And in Kick off Distribute handouts with the location and status of all water sources including Cashes "Water is very important to catch up. The first 700 miles of the trail are talking about water issues, which means often (ProductID < st1: metricconverter = 30 w:st = "email" on "> 30 miles without safe water sources on the absence of water makewater cashes"laid "good people, but they may charge toward the end of the season or after a wave of travellers and not to be trusted always.

On the other hand, if rainy morning this year also not recommended to begin before mid-April because may run of rain and storms (although this talk we hail fell during the first week of walking).

It also has to take into account the estimated time of arrival to the Sierras, you should start them before June 15th and our year was receives the recommended the date until late June 23rd. From hard experience, really shouldn't start too long before the recommended date (started on May 4). Snow slows the pace and we should let it melt a little before starting. We thought it was not really a problem but risked our lives, not into clich? but, really dangerous.

So how long your gateway to reach the Sierra, to determine the recommended date (already rumors will circulate among the aiikrim don't panic) to start them, and prepare accordingly.

Landing

For tourists who come to walk the path there is a tendency to start walking the same day or the next day. We recommend not to do it. Should land a few days before the flight, both to overcome du ה"ג'ט" and to purchase equipment. There are flights from Israel to land at San Diego, but despite the temptation should take at least two to three days (we took 4 weeks).

There are trail angels can be found both in the Yogi and the official website of the path that they can stay after landing, and even driving to the trailhead.

All information about transportation (buses, Angels etc) are several of Yogi.

Equipment acquisition

We can't stress how we wouldn't recommend that you buy equipment in the country!!! Hiking equipment exists can bring, but you don't want to purchase equipment for the land, even through the Internet, for several reasons: the first is that the equipment abroad significantly easier and American trails (expect some difference), the other equipment in the u.s. cheaper third and most important: warranty of the products most equipment in the United States there is at least a year warranty on their products naturally the equipment you think you need isn't always the equipment you require And companies like REI, you can return the equipment if you find that it doesn't meet your needs (not just broken but simply doesn't fit) purchased in such a great vacation option when choosing equipment, and significant savings in retrospect we do all our shopping atREI are the layout during their expansion, but mostly because of the incredible selection and service (you can replace and also supplies through the mail).

Equipment

Each and every personal taste. But I have to pay attention to two things as shifts are given out this case: weight and weight. The case is going to accompany you (hopefully) in four to five months, all made of felt 30 miles — we promise. The difference between light and heavy equipment is not significant. The disadvantage of light is usually less durable, it doesn't matter! Rather mild case now than grandchildren will case.

There are two ways to reach the light case (no more shamctoanim 5-6 pounds, swiping including food and water): purchase of light, avoiding unnecessary luxuries. Each see fit what is necessary and what is just for pampering. (E.g. tank were 2 pairs of underwear, and lico were not at all ...)

The following is a list of equipment that we took (this is not a list recommendation that's just what we need.)

It should be noted that our cases were heavy but our equipment wasn't easy, arrived with equipment from Israel and just didn't have the money to invest in new equipment. All the weight saved was not carried virtually no pampering.

On the body:

* Two walking sticks each

* T-shirt (+ BRA tank)

(It is recommended to buy clothes in stores of sport mart i.e. writers of sporting goods, where prices much cheaper and there is less need for warranty)

* Shorts (with internal underwear)

* Low sneakers + low socks

(Wright's going great for REI brilliant stocking and shoes of Salomon come with a one year warranty which means to change when they finish their irotan after 3-4 weeks but out of 7 couples hardly ever went with the same pair twice)

* Giiters (low, high, we bought the rest of OR they have a lifetime warranty and are good)

* Bandana/Cap (according to the gas, each was both)

* Sunglasses (each one – very important especially for snow)

In the General case.

* ProductID < st1: case metricconverter = "45 gallon" w:st = "on" > 45 liters – our case was not easy (butREI has an excellent portfolio of recommended).

* Tent for two persons (we took north face-very heavy, "tarp tent". Links to light tents have a Yogi)

* 3/4 mattress Terma rest (Each)-the simplest, not;

* שק"ש   ? 20. (Ferenhaith ) opposite geese \North face REI (Everyone we bought the sleeping bags so that we can connect them and create a double sleeping bag we tried, but it's cool to sleep like that, that goes into a lot of open source extension)

* Actual tank liner, liner from Cool max The lico.

(More delicate silk, and again beat the crap out of him while sleeping so he moved tocool max, although he slightly heavier we would place on liner for two reasons: one, because it adds warmth and sometimes have other hygienic reasons-can easily wash-liner thing whereas not sleeping bag.)

* Small plastic bottle of 600 mmto

(Regular soft drink bottle with a wide mouth, is located in an accessible way file so that you can use to fill water etc we recommend Nalgin It's just excessively heavy and more)

* Platypus 2.5 + straw bag (each)

(Numbers in addition to 4 l. Platypus bag-both or extra bottles)

* Digital camera (the payload sent each time in the mail)

* Flashlight split (one for both of us)

* Pen and notebook for addresses and phone numbers + journal

(Our equipment, it is recommended to buy a notebook, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a good company abroad – one of 40 «say come with plastic cover)

* Drops Aquamira Water purification

(We know they're not very spring and resulting purged the water clean enough and maybe total-no need for a heavy and serious filter)

* Read also had lico

More clothes

Liko:

* Tights pants real minutes

* Thermal long vest LOWE ALPINE

* Thin rain suit Ducks dry . (That's what we had bought in Kick off The original suit on site Www.froggtoggs.com/original.htm)

* 2-3 more pairs of socks in different thicknesses (think clean socks are always fixed per night)

* קיצ'ימיצ'י hat (one that covers both the neck and mouth), thermal fabric – the easiest there is.

* Gloves North face Minutes (cold section)

* Thin Fleece (200) north nofe in parts of the Sierra.

Tank:

* Pants tights

* Thin sleep shirt

* 2 pairs of underwear

* Thin rain suit

* 2-3 more pairs of socks in various thicknesses

* Felice (almost all the time)

* The gloves.

* Thermal vest added to the sections

Cookware

* Cooking system Pepsi can stove That includes beer from cans, windscreen, and position the pot.

* 250 ml alcohol.

* Lighter + matches.

* Salt

* Tibulies

* 2 tablespoons to Jackson

* Small knife

* Sometimes olive oil

* Sheath to dry the pot

First aid kit and toiletries

* Toothbrush (one for both of us)

* Two little Polish (it is important to keep the package's kotann)

* Hand cleansing fluid

(Think of death, most of the aiikrim glue themselves in Jamaica because of strict personal hygiene, keeping the hands after each walk to the bathroom and before the most important food)

* Toilet paper (rolls and roll)

* A small container hand cream

* Gauze, bandages for blisters.

* Medical tape (at any pharmacy named athletic tape)

* Ointment (very comfortable bringing the country sintomicin 5% because of the very small tube)

* Tweezers

* Nail Clipper

* Means's bathroom fixtures

* Vitamin E

* Antibiotics.

* Bullets to prevent altitude sickness

* (Important Polish! A high school and will be handy in case).

* Earmuffs (when you're asleep, or road near to falling trees creak all night – it helps!)

And navigation books

* Watch including compass study height

* Pages from Data book (Data numbers helps basic orientation)

* What pages Guide book (For map. Sometimes the path is not well marked-required)

* What pages Yogi book (Helps to orient in towns, saving hundreds of dollars for example by referring to the angelic Bill).

Every time we sent the pages of the following sections to ourselves.

Sierra equipment

* Addition of warm clothing (listed earlier).

* Box against bears for food (you can rent these boxes).

* The bag can carry the weight of additional equipment-not required to replace but make sure the bag is capable

Carry a little more.

* Special maps of the JMT FILMS DISTRIBUTION (Efficiency!)

* Lightweight titanium crampons of Ula Can be found at Www.ula-equipment.com.

Although they were easy they wouldn't be strong enough and broke the lico while falling.

(We recommend in addition to snow capped mountains is Sandals specifically)

Food

The distance between the towns is averaging < st1: metricconverter ProductID = "100 miles" w:st = "on" > 100 miles. According to be computed. Most people send themselves prepared packages or one of the family's cooking. Israel travel there is a problem because most have time and family with sending and organizing packages. We bought the food of a food package to some we sent the last town. With a little flexibility and pampering can obtain fully any store on the trail. Her book Yogi indicates the level of diversity in any store, even though she writes that there are places where it is impossible to obtain, we our age, with a little help from the box so much that sometimes I almost didn't even need to buy food.

You should not skip any store, and any possible stop bringing it saves weight in hysterical. (It is true by the way about water to carry as little as possible to fill much-way springs and not waste time on purification).

We ate:

Morning (around 5:30). Each chocolate drink (cold water) the struggle of Carnation Enriched with vitamins.

Break two hours later (about 8). How many tablespoons of butter shots for energy and protein.

Lunch (around 12). A mixture of oatmeal (instant in different flavors) with cereals (another addition of vitamins).

Snacks during the day. (Time or times between lunch and dinner)-according to the offers of various energy bars, bars of chocolate, gorp (a mixture of peanuts, raisins and variations on the theme) or any dbrer and easy to pull off.

Dinner (around seven, seven and a half) Instant rice , mashed potatoes with tibulies powder and olive oil (because kosher restrictions could not eat ", or iptvenim). Plus some something sweet for dessert.

Vitamins. Most for taking iron and vitamin C No special reason except that's what mom gave us basically most of the vitamins daily can be completed by additional food vitamins (like chocolate milk, cereal and energy bars)

Randomly tips

* And should have an address in the USA where you can send the extra equipment you want to get rid of him (we started with the weight of the bag and proceeded to send packages with more equipment to the last towns in Washington.)

* In cases that come to Sierra, people can spend weeks even in Kennedy Town doos, waiting for the snow to melt.

We encourage you to take advantage of this waiting time to reach sections of the trail have accessed from side paths and plant food. There is a section of Sierra < st1: metricconverter ProductID = "170" w:st email = "on" > 170 miles of emptiness, not for simply towns, she trails 4-9 per mile of trail, "Greece" to avoid those ports you can take advantage of the waiting time and plant food.

* In almost every village there is a post on the trail. And nearly all the Angel Bill receives packages (lists of addresses and sending is Yogi) also available to American mail there is wonderful patent called " forward" , meaning you can move on to another address free of charge unopened package. Most post offices to know and recognize the patent. What most aiikrim do is send themselves with additional package or all kinds of things you will need in the future to post offices along the way. This box with additional equipment called "rape" as a and you can bounce it simultaneously walking and open it if needed. For example came to us with the maps to the glove box, and am bullshit we need immediately to want to advance in parallel. In the second half when our wise man somewhat sent envelopes with the pages below for the beginning of this section we need to open every time the whole box and pay the shipping. You should send in the "flat rate" save a lot of money.

* Plus on parity "being alone is very nice but it's nice to have two twice (La [parpar nehmad]) Yes it is quite scary and must indicate that both were concerns about the exposure of our relationship on a journey so crowded together. But on the last day we both agreed that what I mostly got it off herself. To be together 24/7, it's really not easy, but the reason it was good for us is that from the beginning we decided we are taking all this together. In other words (and this is also true for couples they don't pair buildings) we don't insist everyone on his own desires and his way of doing things, and we try to get each other and be tolerant, just lots of openness and flow. The trail allows things to be much simpler than, and should learn mostly to relax and be in rhythm together. That doesn't mean everyone's gone, or I have to do everything the same, but listening. There were sections of screaming in the middle of the mountains, but as it comes, it goes.

In terms of equipment – most of our equipment was like traveling alone, except for the vessels and had the tent. In terms of distribution on the back, were fragments lico, and carried fragments of human behaviour, all container based on personal ability and physical condition in a given period. Ditto about the foot each other go different paths should decide in principle every time waiting, go so it's convenient to both sides.

In short this is a great opportunity and we should take advantage of it.

So we know it was quite long, but this trip too long we sure can add to return here at least twice with tips and opinions.

Good luck

From iklico PCT 2006 !!!

Hello

I was wondering what to do in order to convince us that precious Government spending 5-7 months is not a terrorist act machita or attempted illegal emigration.

As is well known, the tourism visas valid without more מ90 day, the innovator (gotta stay two months outside the u.s.).

For those of you who made the long routes--how did you confirm?

Thank you

Tell the truth at the entrance to the United States on IMMIGRATION

Another possibility to get three and get an extension on the way after three months in the hope that you will get.

Three-month visas are either or-if there is no particular reason so get six months and that's enough.

Actually there is a little surreal. A little long but maybe we can learn something from him.

I had 10 years visa before the bombings and therefore not passed the awkwardness of issuing a visa at the Embassy. But as I discovered in the visa dyaved is just to buy a plane ticket to the USA or sell you a ticket. On immigration, they reserve the right to refund you back or telling you about an hour and a half with research questions of the angles.

It was something like this:

Officer: why have you come to the u.s.

I do the aplatim

-

I love to travel.

-How much money do you have?

About fifteen thousand dollars.

-Do you have money?

-Worked

-How long have you worked?

At this point started tripping thing ***

I spent a year in the military three and paid me for it [

-What would you

I was an officer.

-Kicked out of the military?

Not kicked the leaving, is acceptable.

Yes, but why? Tired to kill Arabs? (I swear it was the question)

Not what I wanted,

Well, follow me. I went into the room with another officer, waited for nearly an hour until me and then started to question me about the same questions all the time writing something on the computer and whenever I ask about everything OK tell me until the officer raised his head from the computer, welcome to the u.s. passport and seal I. ..

It was surreal to halotion

Hmm .... Their Embassy probably on drugs.

Last time when I asked, they answered that there is an option to extend your stay.

It's a shame that such a beautiful land is managed by people so nervous.

Don't underestimate the Americans. See where they are and where we are.

Order should be.

They're not nervous, they simply arranged and processed according to rules and procedures sometimes need it.

To write their Embassy on drugs seems a bit unwarranted.

Another good link (from the creator of constant American junk we receive from the mailing list of the PCT-L)

Want to join also!

Http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11ors.html/07/sports/othersports/07outdo-_ r = 1

It talks about Scott Williamson as story telling is a celebrity on the trail. (Little man obsessed if you ask us). He tried a few times until you succeed. And he did it in 2004, and Nera does it again this year-for going.

Please welcome him.

Disinformation! =.

I have no reservations about the administration of their migration, or perhaps more accurately, it's none of my business, but when I called the Embassy and Consulate to find out I was told (if to say impatiently) there is no option to visit more than three months for any purpose that is

I think lack of order.

The final setting is the immigration officer at the airport.

There are enough people here who came to reach for and o. Just telling the truth.

Don't know why Tel Aviv mdkdkim the information about length of stay, must have a procedure to ensure that nothing in their authority.

So my clarification coming up on 27 April 2007 until 29.

My questions:

1) first of all, how do I get from Los Angeles to the starting point of the route.

2) I understand that akickaoff out in point 20 miles on the trail after the starting point, when do I need to start the track to get to kickoff + should I do what container and Chico did and start a few days before, reaching a point farther back to kickoff, then skip to where I was on the track (to avoid the travellers).

Guys, I need some answers that if everything works out I bought a ticket to Los Angeles this month.

I know this topic has been discussed several times on the Forum, but thought to have opinions about the case.

I have visa for 10 years I spent in 2001.

As I traveled the aplatim (2001) immigration clerk gave me four and a half months. In practice I stayed 5 months and when I left I didn't give them the white card with the dates on the pretext that lose me.

In 2004 I went back to the United States, once to visit a friend. When you walked in the immigration official asked me the usual questions and sent me the first "room" (before it knew), she asked me again the shshallot course and answered answers and after they saw I had a plane ticket back to three weeks gave me was to serve three and a half weeks.

This time I left on time.

And now the question is how to get the visa for six months?

What I do is buy a plane ticket with a date back to six months. (For example login April 15, on 1 October)

To explain the immigration officer to both travel on PCT and it takes five and a half months and hope for the best.

How do you think this is better, landing in Chicago (I think the worst), Los Angeles (likely) or San Diego (looks best to me).

Thanks and have a good week.

1) you have two options to get to KICKOFF in Los Angeles-the first is by public transport. Take a train or bus to San Diego from Los Angeles (you will need to check the buses from the airport to the train, but basically it's not a problem).  San Diego public transportation to a place that is just a few kilometres from akikop, or from the town is less than a mile from the start of the PCT.  You will find on this site.

The preferred option is to utilize the Panel that appears on the site sometime. If you're early enough shouldn't be a problem to find an l.a. on the day you choose.  That's what I did at the time.  Got a lift Thursday from Los Angeles, take someone else.

2) consider that akikop is about 20 miles from the border to mksikai but only about eight miles on the road (for here twisted crazy).  You shouldn't have any problem finding a akikop.  Again this is what I did. Slept on Thursday kickaop. And I got a ride Friday morning for more border people and did the 20 mile one day (very easy). On Friday, there are no events in the d.n. anyway and most people just get so.   It is best to start from the mksikai, because the only thing which safety considerations.  There are plenty of Mexican illegal immigrants who cross the border, and I heard some unpleasant stories about contacts (although most of the vast majority of cases, these poor just run away from you).  Anyway the starters on the team could be much safer (and you want someone to take your picture.

I wouldn't recommend starting earlier, unless you prefer to go alone.  If you start in kickaop very quickly find a group of hikers who go quickly.  Wouldn't it be more of a load, but that's only the beginning, and it's not the people on the apalch.  There are also a lot of advantages in going with others (except social) as being able to participate with others in the hotel room, and the fact that a lot of people have support staff (especially at the beginning in the Los Angeles area) and give rides to all types of travelers.  An early start is only worthwhile if you go, then you prefer to be alone.   The early start usually doesn't matter, because you have to wait for snow melting before she goes to Sierra.

BTW, if you are a beginner looking for transportation (which is supposed to take a few more months until the Board cost) may specify other people want.   I am thinking of doing the PCT this spring from akikop to the Washington border.

As Greece most people come to kickaop on Friday, may be a bit harder to find a ride on Thursday.

I'm currently checking on flights.   From experience, domestic flights in the us really cheap because there's a lot of competition and you can find really cheap flights from coast to coast online (I usehttp://WWW.KAYAK.COM site).      The most expensive part of the flight is the flight from Israel. There is much more competition for flights from Tel Aviv to New York than Dallas elsewhere, so a cheaper flight away.  Domestic away slightly more expensive than flights from Chicago, but the difference is not significant.  Anyway you don't want a roundtrip flight to Los Angeles that assuming that the PCT you finish will fly back to the East Coast/Chicago from Seattle.  Regarding the choice between Los Angeles to San Diego — it doesn't really matter if you find transportation from Los Angeles, you can find cheap flights to Los Angeles.

By the way, if you find any cheap flight to the u.s. from Israel, let me know (especially if it's one flight of Greece).  The last flight took eisrair to New York $ 340 one way, but now it seems they have raised the prices significantly.

What do you think of doing it right. Get a card with a date 7 months. Explain how zmann takes the PCT can always change the return date with your card. And it seems to me at no extra cost. Anyway this time than necessary, because if you don't come back again within the time allotted to you. What for you to try out those brackets? They're already really flaky and butter for immigration officials.

And why Chicago? Aunt got there? Probably San Diego better. And another question: are you going to go for six months in a row?

Rooney, the question of where should land wasn't for those price conscious consideration of immigration officials and for so get 6 months visa.

In terms of prices, I found round-trip flights already in Los Angeles around $ 800 (without checking the details like time limit.)

I'm going to find out the prices and more details. Anyway I want to spend a week in Los Angeles, Vegas before so I'm aiming for my flight to April 15th.
