Hello everyone,

We try to collect GPS data of good quality in order to upload them to maps so that travellers can print their SJ's course maps are topographic maps due to problems of copyright and therefore less quality replacement but it could be a solution for people who cannot get/buy maps.
In my view there is no substitute for topographic maps that allow you to get a good picture of the environment in which you travel and knowledge about plants, and sites of interest in the area, but it could be a partial solution for those who nevertheless decides to go for without map.

In short, anyone with a GPS, GPS measurements possession of SJ and want to help the project feel free to contact me talsh2@gmail.com

Thank you
Tal
P.s. also volunteers to travel with GPS to collect measurements are invited to contact us.
P.s. on any idea or tip for project advancement are welcome

Hey. That sounds perfect for me.

Ill-tempered flying back to israel on the end of november and was thinking of finely thruhiking the INT in winter.  Release my problem is that I'm way too cheap to buy the yesrael shvil maps, and I also feel that they are way over priced.  Will be are for a MUCH cheaper hostel run by option for maps. (I actualy hiked here in the u. S > part of the way using maps I photographed on my digital camera and was able to view on the screen.  Not very comfortable but had to be done as I was 100 km south of my intended route due to fires and had no maps.

This would be the perfect thing G.ps l solution

Thanks

Roni

P.S.

I'm normaly a g.p. agains using s As it takes away the fun and chalege of getting lost and finding your way, but if that's the only alternative to the official maps I would buy them

How much would a G.P. S with maps cost?

Any Ideas for realy cheap ones.

I would probebly be better buying a g.p. 's if I need one here in the us.

-If you are planning to do the trail in winter
Maybe try to get you to maps and you record all the GPS for a resolution that is appropriate for the site? Enjoy the same map and make important service to the nation.

I'm also against a GPS but here it is a target.

GREAT!

One of the reasons I haven't hiked release the Israel trail yet was because I realy didnt want to pay for all the maps.  It would be great If I can do the GPS thing this winter and somehow even help other hikers. Im sure that even with a GPS I will be able to get lost.

If your doing a quiet market research and somehow find a GPS that is significantly cheaper hostel run by in the U.S. maybe I can buy it here and then bring it to israel with me in 3 weeks.  You know my email (roni_h at pocketmail.com)

Now in Waynsboro, virginia

Rooney, there was no need, I have 2 GPS devices, I just need to get over to get them ... I hope there wouldn't be a problem. But if you're coming to Earth three weeks some cartons of Kamel and a bottle Chivas from the plane would be great.

Amir.

Hey Chillum,

As mentioned we want higher-quality measurements to draw it better maps and anyone can print it from the website with relative ease.

If you have better quality measurements I'd talsh2@gmail.com !

Thank you

What I have is only the file in question.

Speak and yagil they did parts of trail with GPS (bill number ע"ע)

I'm not sure what maps are you going to get the points and what קנ"מ? About בנות1:50,000 maps?

Because if yes then fine file (easy but if variance with map so it's fine.)

Who goes with GPS that's another story.

Positive, tablecloths of 1:50000.

Your file on a map looks pretty good but I'm not sure he can be used as a substitute for topographic maps.

Hi folks.

Landed in Israel a few days ago and I still hope to do Israel trail.  I looked at the official site of Israel and make me really bad. Not only the map of the trail, but not really up to date, the most prominent on the home page (http://www.shvil.org.il/shvil.html) is the copyright message.
A strong impression that the purpose of the society for the protection of nature is to make money from Israel by forcing people to buy the expensive maps, and I really don't care if they are promoting the walk for or not. If they care about promoting the trail they would — or letting someone else get a good guide to with maps so that a person who wants to do everything not to have to pay over 1000 shekels to buy the whole map.   It's pretty disgusting behavior of the society for the protection of nature and I'm not prepared to support her by buying any map (which works fine with my natural parsimony).

Anyway, I'm really excited for the mapping for GPS to help people bypass the need for topographic maps.

Hey Ronnie,

Yes, the website of Israel is simply a disgrace, and it's time for the Committee to change topographic.

We will be happy to put you GPS to record all the trail and bring it to a network so that people won't have to buy maps. So buy the maps of all 700 NIS for great society for protection of nature, but it's still quite a bit.
I think you can probably borrow from Forum members at least some maps and save costs.

In short, you are welcome to contact me before you go to-2233771 or talsh2@gmail.com

Tal-passed on the website http://www.cs.technion.ac.il/~litalma/TheShvig/index.html

And he was very helpful and informative.  Are you sure you can still get all the maps for for $ 700?  The price is bad especially if the map noilanot.  From what I found online was operation of selling all noiilant map at 50 shekels but he ended a few weeks ago.

I'm still passionate about the idea of the road map for GPS so that people are even more "financially challenged" me can do for without being obligated to buy the maps. Where are you located?
