Hey guys.
Interested to hear what GPS do you use, and why. What is the price range of these things? Parameters which you check them?
And you know maybe a solution to such a loans in a single trip?
Maybe somebody tried to use (not in) laptop as a replacement?
Thank you!

When I have (it doesn't happen often) or you just want to check my navigation I use Holux M-241:

Why
He weighs only 39 g
He works on AA battery unit as all my electronics (and AA lithium-based who made casts 14 grams)
-Help using map you get what you get and expensive appliances order of Garmin Etrex heavy
Allows using the same paper map you got (multiuse)
-Small
-Cheap (my cost $ 20 used through Ebay) $ 40 dollars.
You can use it as a GPS Logger and get a track directly to Google Earth from GeoTAG Geotagging software and have the photos taken.
-Displays speed, time, koordintas, ...

In general I wrote about my electronics here: backpacking-my-https://thehikingdad.wordpress.com/ultralight-vision/ul-gear-electronics/

Experience. a single battery (Li-Po) is enough for one day of logging. But I haven't got a senlla so long. In fact I am there just to get coordinates battery then execute it. I believe that lithium batteries can hold a lot more (and much easier) If you're interested in logging.

I regularly use the unlocked bicycle navigation and navigation in Israel and abroad.
You can download maps and linear algebra. I use Android. There are many strengths compared to dedicated machine, and a few disadvantages.
The downside is time, and when it comes to bikes also look and durability.
You can get a battery.
Recommend that you read the threads about a forum of cyclists.

As part of my running gear I have integrated GPS clock which does a good job also.
My GARMIN model, TACTIX track recording, tracking and monitoring temperature, barometric pressure.
Beyond that, you can upload to it from other interfaces designed routes (google earth, gpsies.com etc) and go to the field when "vector" is displayed.
From my experience, I almost pulls out backpack map. Allowing relatively rapid progress.

It's hard for me to recommend this model for all kinds of reasons, but I hope that the new model will work better FENIX3
Of course, there are other good companies that produce similar products, one of which is her clock sonto called AMBIT of loot were.

I think the last time simply use application unlocked. In the end I don't see myself going with GPS up for several miles trying to find your way.

Funky see, appreciate the situation, make a decision, turn.

No, I've never used a GPS device.
I really like paper maps. About six months ago I became interested in GPS when I planned a trip to Norway that no longer carried out this year but might buy a device/drop.
Still haven't decided if the phone can really replace the device purpose.

The phone can replace dedicated player except some limitations: 1. continuous, won't last many hours for high power on the screen.
2. low resistance to water, dust, dirt and shocks.
3. wet screen, one drop of rain, some drives (similar clicks).

I'm sure there are other disadvantages. On the other hand, there are also many advantages.

The problem of aimedot to dust and water and similar partitions can be solved with good coverage waterproof.
When I think about, I imagine my GPS location validation in conditions of limited visibility and walk with GPS switched on for an extended period of time.
It seems to me that if I buy a dedicated GPS device I find it mostly buried. Obviously Mitchell but at the price of 140 grams (the client ETREX30 as an example) it might be earning. Of course in case of emergency.

Arthur, aiming at him too (using paper maps), I encourage you to check the option mentioned above. All you need is a GPS that exact location and here you always. It's cheap, easy and allows using the map you have anyway.

Maybe running clock is more than good, but expensive.

My $ 0.02

Gregg.

So far I have used GPS, even what I lack is primarily a device to keep out the walking path for later use, oplein. I go along "civilized" and never needed for accurate (if so, I guess I could use a second cell phone). So I'm considering to buy this gadget:

Http://www.amazon.com/Q.-BT-Q1000XT 1000XT Bluetooth-Waypoints-Vibration/dp/B00144PH1S/ref = sr_1_7? ie = UTF8 & qid = 1428302102 & sr = 8-7 & keywords = gps receiver + data logger +

The very positive reviews, and its battery is holding more than 40 hours. Charging through USB cable that fits my hiking nature (the hut to Hut), and if needed can also take spare battery (like cell phones).

I want to understand how things work. For those travelling with map and GPS.
A GPS without a display that shows a map (and probably spend a lot of battery), shows you your location just 12 (coordinates) and you download this map and see your location?

Daybreak, happy holidays.

Yes, definitely! It is very easy if you have Lat/Long Grid on the map. If not, draw it. I use sometimes maps from Google Earth. If you press Ctrl + L to get the network. It is so easy to use and draw only. Then as you look at the monitor and find koordintas on the map (very easy!) what you need to remember that there are several shapes to display Lat/Long koordintas-depends on where you put the period and how recording minutes and seconds of a virtue. Namely, Karmiel is located at:
32° 54 ' 50.06 '' N
35° 17 ' E "15.60

If we move to decimal display:
32.913889
35.287500

The device and the map should have the same type of view. In Holux first form.

Arthur, I prefer paper maps, and maybe use this cell phone can work well. It also, anyway, so he is actually not about extra weight.
However, the option of Holux is interesting.
Neutrino (sorry, don't remember the name)-I understand that you have experience with this device. How long the device can hold about one battery in the same manner on the proposal for placing myself off?

Itamar, nice to meet you. My name is Greg.

I don't think AA battery is over within 20 days. Depends very much on the use of course. What's interesting is to see how many cycles of investigation on position, hold a single battery shutdown.

Greg realized the device shows the longitude and latitude (as in the second view recorded, that damn.)
Or first presentation showed, with the angles?
The way with degrees I don't know, if you expand (if this information is not so relevant to the post ..) on what method indicate digits and how can I use it?

Hey dawn, the handset shows in the first shape. But both methods are supported on Google Earth for example. The transition is pretty easy but of course we want to do the math.
Each leaf has 60 minutes and 60 seconds every minute. Namely those angles and the vertex is at the center of the Earth. Length/width method is old and now are using UTM GRID that is later. Why The Earth is not a sphere in fact. That everyone knows. But he's also not alipsuid. And it's not. The shape of the Earth named real-Nellie gavid (geoid). So the problem is that if you are doing calculations to angles and use alipsuid for Earth, with large variance here nlchan. There have been several editions of alipsoidim (which) to reduce the span or smaller errors. The alipsoidim used to astimatia were called by year do to use any alipsuid (e.g. 84). There is a sea which intended for certain areas where they match almost swallowed with soil. The classic which used all the WGS84 doing aproksimatia day by surface of the entire earth.

UTM GRID is a modern method (supported for example on Garmin eTrex b) that uses all of Earth into relatively small areas (over 1000 of 1500 km) and in each square that gets aproksimatia. For example Israel is almost entirely on zone S37. The name of the zone is always part of the UTM GRID at koordinta (tstclo on the ETREX who has). Other koordintas are mtrim relative to the beginning of the zone. More intoityavi.
Holux doesn't support UTM GRID but still precise enough to navigate.

You can dig this interesting topic. Don't have.
