Well, it's been two and a half years since this path and I think it's time to do a review. I'm sorry I'm just now starting to work on it, but a few things happened which took me some time to digest the Rabbi for.

I decided not only to write concise technical data but also to tell the story of the trail itself. Maybe mine.

Well at the beginning of 2014 started looking long path to do this summer. During Web searches, I found that the Bill did not hear him still and that the information about the network was very-walking stories were Slovak. Very curious of this country didn't know anything about her and her nature and started playing with the idea of trying to run a long trail that crosses it from end to end. Today, two years later it is hard for me to pinpoint exactly why I decided to go to Slovakia. Maybe the desire to get away from the elves and try something a little different or maybe fascinated pictures of the unedited running forests, rolling hills and ancient castles and small villages.

I came to Bratislava, capital of Slovakia in July 2014 with no idea what's waiting for me. The hostel and shtchnati made him a חמ"ל, my planning for details. There was everything I needed: coffee, smoking area, computers with Internet and a quiet place that nobody will bother me while I'm going through. Maps still had. And the first thing that stood before my eyes that buy maps to understand what awaits me.

I knew the chances of a big city to find appropriate maps of good quality is in Bratislava after a few days I found some good equipment stores and some bookstores that sell good quality topographic maps of the KST which is Alpine Club of the State's responsibility in maintaining trails and huts. The networks which I recommend: MARTINUS and PANTA RHEI here.

Because I didn't know exactly where the trail passes and maps I have went to a branch of Panetta and retired Olympic Stadium all maps (incidentally this shop was bigger and selection of maps and were all map of Slovakia) and built on the map of the whole country at a scale of 1:50000 took shoes and started to crawl at 4 on the map while drawing in my head where the trail passes. There were a lot of people looked at me and didn't understand what was going on.

I went back with many maps and managed hostel solitude, and ridge lines, lines began to seem him basins of the walk, and possible points athiot points to. Slowly the puzzle start to connect.

For some names on the official name is "the Pan?nska Cesta Hardinov he ר"ת the .SNP .SNP of Slovensk? n?rodn? povstanie i.e. Slovakia national uprising being the name for big sails a heroes of the Slovak national uprising. The impressive name came to emphasize the fact that the path being used on historical trails were secretly pleased partisan forces of Slovakia during the fighting against the Nazi occupation. The second world war still a hot topic in tasty European and Eastern countries especially tasty European and the trail passes through several places where there were large and important battles e.g. saddle Ducale which was a turning point in the Carpathians. Read more on the subject of the battle of Dukla pass

A brief description of the nature of the trail: the exception to for Alpine walking underground takes place mostly below the tree line on shady forest trails. Sometimes going near or in agricultural fields, the trail passes through remote and quiet villages and even cities. The trail to cross the ridges of Slovakia and remain high. Since leaving Bratislava going over the edges of the lower Carpathians, crossing the Ridge Petra and the ... Tetras Ridge, in the East of the country and breaking the North then becomes a walk in open areas, forests and rolling hills but the lower surface until Poland border.

The trail in Slovakia was different from any other significant Bill that went in my life, as was the view. Until then, Slovenia, prinas, Corsica etc was all around the scenery and the experience of walking near or on ridges and dramatic climbing challenging peaks passim or but in Slovakia it is a journey of discovery and culture that is different from what I've seen in Western Europe. Quiet forests, an ending hidden little villages, many ruins of medieval castles, live little differently than we all spent liquor shouldn't drink occasionally in order not to offend them. These are just some of the unique things I saw and experienced in Slovakia. Everything connects to for a very special experience and different.

During the trail, I met several people who told me, by the way, you have the ability to keep going after the end of the path, because there is a path running on watershed Ridge is a border between Poland to Slovakia. Unofficial sequel adds about 200 kilometers and rugged path name relative to the Polinini the borders of Ukraine-Poland-Slovakia.  The area is characterized by several travellers, lack of villages and the population of bears and other animals live undisturbed. When I came to the decision at the end of the official trail Poland border, it rained. I went to a small restaurant at the border and ate chicken and chips with a beer and waited for the rain to end. Little rain is weakening and heart concerns (I get a shot MP3) and I went down the rain drops to mshulg. In the image below you can see the line of the official end point where the black line was interrupted in the top of the image. The addition of the trail continues down to the right corner of the map ktsionit, northeast of the village of Snina.

Along the path

Approximately 800 miles and 1000 if you continue until Ukraine border.

Difficulty

Medium +. The trail is not at all technical sections via the privatization can be problematic for people who suffer from acrophobia. Although there are ups and downs and earn a few hundred meters a day, but this is alpine trail with increases of 1000 + meters. Also at the beginning and end of the trail and down the cumulative daily decreases. Another thing that makes the physical aspect is the trail to stay high on the ridges and is down to the valleys and villages and back the next day, as in prinas.

Season

Nonetheless, Europe, from mid-June until mid-September. July August this season. In 2014 when he walked the path was terribly rainy summer. So I recommend to prepare also for stormy weather. Storms and Thunder on ... Tetras and a very powerful Carpathian and scary, often walking in a wooded Ridge and don't know which tree and draw the next telegram was stressful at times. Recommends to plan escape routes to the valleys during thunderstorms.

How to get

The most comfortable and cheapest way is to go to Bratislava via Vienna. There are many flight options to Vienna and Vienna and a way to Bratislava takes about one hour by train or bus and fair prices. Approximately 20 euros. Another possibility I didn't know Ryan air flight is a fact directly to Bratislava should be booked early card then you can get excellent prices and the benefit of a direct flight. Thanks to dawn for the update. To the northern end of the complex for arrival, here you need to get to Bratislava and then take buses or subways to East second biggest city called KOSICE and DUKLA passage to Poland. In my opinion towards the walk one way or another, there are no advantages or disadvantages. Maybe just the fact that if you start at the East end near Bratislava and then allow to rest in a beautiful city with attractions.

Regions

The trail aims to relocate in areas of interest and the State can be divided to sections by region and the scenery.

The Small Carpathian Male karpaty. The mountain ridge continues North of Bratislava, 100 miles north and connects to the white Carpathian Mountains Biele Karpaty Carpathians whites continue to the border with the Czech Republic.

Walking in this segment is characterized by moderate and high ridges covered with dense forests. Shaded walkways and comfortable for walking, small and quiet villages.

סטרז'וב Str??ovsk? vrchy hills on the foot that is becoming more vulnerable, gvai and green hills zone exposed white rock screwed above the tree line. Agricultural fields and small villages en route.

Petra-Fatra range

For quality

Here we come to the first issue. The quality really varies of course in which visitors from several relatively large travel (sweetest tole region in ... Tetras is still not close to any path in the Alps) and marked trails, but there are many areas where a path rule. For example, whole areas where trees have been uprooted from the ground and lie on the trail and allow passage or that disappeared because tihezko. Sometimes walking on grass that moves me in height and there is no way to find the trail or the markup. Almost no chance not to get lost in these cases but with a little resourcefulness and ability to navigate can pursue global progress and to connect to for point less problematic.

Maps

Topographic maps in very good quality and sold in large towns throughout the track. Recommend to Bratislava and TRENCIN maps to buy maps to KOSICE in small villages unknown way.

Food

During the often cook for yourselves. In small villages (not every day) usually not eating very small containers. Bread, cheese, sausage, canned vegetables, pasta, and sweets.

No gas sold on the road but only in major cities.

In most areas there are cabins that can sleep and eat. For example, the area of low ... Tetras walking it reminds a thousands-spacious chalets.

Alcohol

There is a tradition of drinking in Slovakia like Eastern Europe, most drinks are local beers and alcohol that make adults alone at home. The latter is definitely something worth expanding upon. Alcohol in domestic activity called Palene, translated as "burnt" and refers to the process of refining fire. Please do not worry that you drink unless you decide to cross the country. Almost all mature men meet in a country that offers to host you and be quite a few of these in rural areas-will offer you to have a drink with you that one of your neighbors or himself.  You can politely decline and explain that you have a lot more to go but it is not easy and can convince you to little pussy.

Once I entered the village and found a place to sleep in a guest cabin, ba'als there invited me to drink with him and courtesy as we both agree, the more I understood the English-very basic which was mixed in many Slovak-better and better and the conversation became more and more.  After midnight we talked politics.

The Plana don't actually say anything about the type of alcohol except that is Home made, prominent examples I've ever tasted:

Homemade Slivovica-slibovica alcohol made from prunes. Secretary of liquor or brandy hard. Between 40 to 60 percent doesn't

Hruskovitsa — same as the slibotzia but pears

In fact there are separate ALE made of fruit as they do all have fruit ales. Start the name suggests what made cider.

Borovicka-orovich. A juniper tree fruit square. A very special flavor and high alcohol percentage which may reach 70. Sometimes also called "nature's revenge"

Chai-Te Tatranskiy ... Tetras. Withstand alcohol tea serving ahrarym areas of the country. Right now, the name became also a commercial type of alcoholic drink produced in Slovakia.

Local beers: there are some good beers cookers in Slovakia. Refers you tothe Slovak capitals page since I don't really have anything to add about this.

During the walk from visiting the village where the brewery-sharish of SARIS. And the local pub beers come in directly from the factory.

Water

The water in potable water of Slovakia. While I was walking in water/cabins that are moved and natural sources without clear. If so, he would refer to the area marked on the map and on the ground with signage.

Interesting point about the water is ה"קיסלקה"-this is basically a natural spring feeding of soda water mineralization level. The kiscot are scattered around the country and people can freely use springs. It is not recommended to consume too much of these water and take them with you for a long time. I remember some locals took me to such emanations and really impressed. The first time I had something so full of minerals directly from nature. It took me a little while to get used to the taste of the water slightly Aki

Purchase points

Cities and towns on the way are either purchase points (in easy walking distance from West to East) again highlights the problem of gas not sold only in major cities.

Bratislava-the capital city of all.  Your base camp for recent closures before heading out to the track and the only chance to buy rims.

Myjava-Javanese. Town. Supermarket.

Trencin-Trencin. Medium city that you can find all tourist office sells topographic maps and even equipment store.

Donovaly ski town, some ski shops in town for a couple of caf?s and restaurants. A number of hotels.

Kosice Kosice. Big city. I haven't stayed there too but I'm sure you can find everything.

Presov-prashov. Not exactly on the path, not bother to go down there to see.

Bardejov-ardeov. The old town of the city incredibly saved from medieval times and is a UNESCO heritage site in bardeov by the way there is also Holocaust commemoration hand what really surprised her.

I spent a few days because I really enjoyed walking around the old town.  Cafes, restaurants and a supermarket.

Medium city Svednik a few asdoth and a grocery store.

During the walk for venturing into several villages but they are very small and they are not much more than a few houses and a small grocery store.  Sometimes not even that.

Live
In the open areas of Slovakia live animals to be careful.

Bears: the country bears the largest population living in Europe, therefore, must take all the necessary precautions: locals speak for themselves and even shout when passing through areas of dense forest or thicket or in their walking sticks. Yet in order not to scare a bear and make an attack from self-defense. The food was tied in a bag on a tree branch high

The Wolf: Wolf population there especially around orawa, cosisha and Liptov region but aside from stealing the wolves do not pose any danger to humans. Seen once wounded young zabon went after a while but I never felt threatened by him.

Wild boar: the boar not seen once I decided to keep going into the night. I went on a wooded Ridge and heard something rustling in the darkness around me and after a while I saw the silhouette of the pig. Those precautions that we take in the country during a meeting with a pig. Usually they run away when they see an approaching person or Jericho but do not count on it. Please do not get returned to the State that he has nowhere to run hate don't get too close. The biggest danger comes precisely from those females since attack if they defend their offspring.  In case of an attack of male or female it is something extremely dangerous. Trust me.

Reindeer: reindeer saw several times. A shy animal that typically run much before you notice her but once large and impressive male deer approached me over a distance of several feet. I sat under a tree hiding from the rain and he walked straight towards me but looked the other way and where Ellie's heart.

Foxes: another animal is not a danger to humans but steal your food if you don't call it high.

Lynxes: I never got to meet you most likely won't win because it's a pillar of the big cats is very shy and avoid humans. The area known inhabited lynxes are the Mala Fatra-Petra.

Bison: natual polonini. Poloniny is one of the few places in the world where living bison population called zobrim in Russian. Some of the villagers, the big powerful animal that eats only grass fortunately. If you see one, unlikely since because only about 3000 hunting bison operative is shipping worldwide, just don't go near it.

B

There is no prohibition on camping throughout Slovakia in private space.   I was sleeping in a tent in the woods or spent any Grove, when I finish a day walking in the village, I slept in the open near the village in order to fill and use the store in the morning, the villages themselves usually are small and where workers and toierim villages offering accommodations but sometimes there is a kind of Utulnja-otolania in an impromptu cabin building or the villagers or Alpine Club but themselves given the possibility to sleep on wooden bunks.

In most areas-e.g. lower or higher ... Tetras or near ski resorts there are cabins that allow for room and Board. The huts are marked on the map. The fairly low prices relative to the cabins in Western Europe.

For example: otolania

Equipment

There is no need for special equipment beyond that for equipment we know to tread in Slovakia. Must take into account the equipment and cooking area-good tent, a sleeping bag to 0 degrees.

When it comes to clothing, you must prepare for change. Protective clothing and rain and warm clothes for days on the mountain is surprising. The trail passes through several areas with different conditions. Of course, rain clothing. As I said also in season dropped quite a bit of rain.

Warm clothing I took with me a thermal top and bottom layer and coat upside down and I think it gave me a good solution for mountain and days to cold nights since it was

Footwear-shoes matter quite personally, I went with the half. I'm sure you can make the field Sprint shoe for someone with experience with this style.

On the other hand, of course you can wear boots and trekking shoes. Gain more confidence and protect your feet but invest more effort.

There is no need for a water purification system.

In Slovakia, you can buy good rims only in Bratislava. There are several good equipment.

Safety and hazards

During the track "no technical sections. No help via privatization and other iron or sections that require the use of hands and feet together to overcome vertical obstacles.
In certain areas that are not in the field reserves are logging jobs. In these areas it is impossible to miss them, there is a risk of overwriting a truck falling trees.
Storms are a serious danger to people who die every year in Slovakia by lightning, therefore be careful walking on ridges and in open fields during storms. There were a few times when the storm caught me off guard once the content was very dangerous because I was stuck on an exposed Ridge that was hard to get off.

Attacking bear or boar. All the food or other things that can attract animals tie bag closed high on a branch not to put wild rats on a tree that can climb a tree to get to the food. The food has to tie a large tent. Do not stay near water sources, water resources are a source of attraction for wildlife at night.  Recommend to read on the network, and to extend the knowledge on the behaviour in areas where there are bears.

The trail passes through many areas do not meet many visitors, so everything can become a serious problem in case any medical or rescue car and you can get yourself to the nearest settlement, on the other hand, it's not about wild areas. Within walking distance of several hours for certain you will find anywhere.

The emergency number is 112 dmina. Link to website of the mountain rescue service of Slovakia

The starting point of the ruins of Devin castle on the banks of the Danube River on the border between Slovakia to Austria.

Chalets scattered along the path (otolania) to use for free.

During the going quite a bit on forested ridges.

Typical view of Western Slovakia areas, forested hills and open fields.

Crossing the ridge the ... Tetras, the trail goes right the watershed line throughout the range. To the South of the country views South to the border with Hungary and Northern ... Tetras.

Polonini area, continues to Ukraine borders Poland Slovakia triangle.
A very interesting area, travellers, quiet villages in valleys where live rosintim. A special ethnic group with a very interesting history. Read more on rosintim

The last day of the journey, look into Ukraine. Before the long descent to the Valley and the Eastern settlement in the country. And of course food!
I could lay out the tent and go to bed but the desire to get to the village and was too big, probably wouldn't be able to sleep until midnight. I have a lot of energy in the evening and I can't sleep.
So I decided to come down on the same day to the Valley village of Nova Sedlica at 10 area and found an open bar and asked for food and although the kitchen had been closed, but it wasn't enough, and after a few minutes I got that ask for more.
Then I went to the riverbank, built tent for the last time this trip and went to sleep.

I find the camera's memory card, it's been a long time.
Road walk? I remember one time I just went on asphalt 30 minutes because I went from Ridge and just shortened in order to reach the village where I was supposed to sleep.
For most of the walk is on pedestrian walkways. There are areas where trees are made to work (unfortunately) which completely destroys the area and finding the path to where the issue turned to dirt trails that were turned into mud because of rain.

Very low costs. Accommodation in a cottage in the village dinner EUR 20 if there's a restaurant in the area 10 euros. Beer or other drinks as euros and a half to two and a half.

The trail is very cheap because there is no infrastructure mostly in basic cabins and villages and live in which peasants and toierim villages.

There is a very pronounced in standard of living between West and East, as approaching the border Ukraine significantly cheaper everything gets. The Gypsy population in villages and towns. Lack of workplaces (Bratislava's population increased 2 times on weekdays because of possible staff from all over the country).

Once a small village near Ukraine border towards the end of the trail in beer bought 70 euro cents.

I didn't understand the question.

P.s.

I remembered how many times you go on small roads between villages in the first week of orbit.

Can I replace the walking in high ... Tetras parallel north. That way the trail becomes more diverse and Alpine views entirely. I also don't think it's particularly complicated to do this essay for the counterpart.
Talk to the locals and to conditions in different regions, once so shunned neighboring area where forest has fallen because of strong winds and the area to be transferred.
More than that I can't say, I was very disappointed that the trail passes through areas where jobs are, but see that deforestation in many trails not areas defined either as a teacher or a national park.

Very nice hotel, and rolling Ridge with views of the open areas in Central and South Slovakia almost to the border with Hungary and also you can see (in good visibility conditions) the Alpine landscape of the high side ... Tetras.
Except I can't guarantee that the connection between the path to the high-Tatranska magistrala ... Tetras won't take you through areas and pleasant to walk them.

Good torrent!

About the ... Tetras sections: I realized that doing/done in the Woods logging jobs because of the storm that was there a few years ago, and sometimes unpleasant to walk in these areas — the wrong as written or just less nice to walk in the forest.

It was noticeable when you went?

Where can I ask about the current state of the path?

If the path is indeed in the works, which would you recommend for 3-5 days (Except atterot, walk there anyway).

Do you have any recommendations on travel shops in Bratislava?

Thank you!

The works of felling the trees ... Tetras are not. The entire area of the ... Tetras is above the tree line. But you're right, the trail passes through some areas where such work.
Certainly unpleasant to walk in these areas also, also check the movement of trucks and often the landscape.
It was definitely noticeable when I went.

Trying to send an email to the national organization of Slovakia the KST. And interested in the position.
I guess not much has changed since I was there two years ago.

The trail doesn't work, don't work during all his 1000 miles in very specific areas. If you are looking for a trip of 3-5 days you can cross the ... Tetras and look away and wide valleys to the South of the country.
Or you can go to the Park and MALA FATRA there quiet trip without much. Her recommendation in VELKA FATRA to the. All you need is a bed and cooking supplies topographic maps. Then you can assemble yourself your own trip on the quieter parks of Slovakia.

Bratislava I visited 2 stores equipment. HUDY and second one TREKLAND. And I know there's more. Footwear and clothing at a very good level, and more complementary accessories-flashlights to lockers, etc.
