hello there, next year i am planning to hike the INT and wondered if there were any one else out there thinking the same. I would love to share concerns and ideas about the trail with fellow hikers.

Hi Kevin
Nice to have you as a visitor to our site and a future visitor in our country.
There are always hikers on the INT, never a dull moment.
Best time is Spring and Autumn, main concern is water planning in the desert region but we'll help you plan it, rest is a piece of cake, well, almost.
Do you need any advise on equipment or getting fit to hike?

thanks Zammy for the welcome.
I hiked the Appalachian Trail last year and thats where i found out about the INT.
At the moment I am debating whether to buy maps now or wait till i arrive in israel. I have found some maps online that cover the trail in 1:50,000 but they will cost me around $300.
Would i be able to get hold of the trail maps easily once im in israel?
My other concern is of course the desert. This is a completely new environment to me and i welcome any advice!
I am planning to begin in March.
I hope i am using this interface correctly as i cant read hebrew!

Hi kevin
You are doing fine.
What's your trail name?
The maps are in hebrew and I strongly advise you to buy them here or wait for "instructions" on how to get parts relevant to the INT scanned...
The desert, you will need to carry, at times, between 6-9 litres for
two to three days. I advise you to stay in contact with us and we'll help you find partners to walk, Israelis of course, and they will have other meaning of water reserves ,like hiding it beforehand in the desert, I am sure they will be happy to have you as a partner for the INT.
Are you in good shape? this is not the Wye valley you know...
You'll need strong tougher shoes as the trail is rocky.
Temperatures and rain are nothing like the United Kingdom...
March is spring time.
Maybe you won't even need Goretex shoes. זמי138985.5801273148

I was planing to begin my trip at October , but things gone bad with the war and stuff , so my plans for today is to wait till the spring , begining of March and start the trail from north to south

My trail name was dandylion and i hiked Georgia to Maine in 2005.
I only turned 20 this year, so i like to think i have natural fittness, but i am starting to get myself back into top shape in preparation. ,
Hey sureal! drop me an email if you would like and we can talk some more, i put it at the bottom of my last post i believe.
I am taking seriously the concept of hiking in a desert. I have rarely carried more than a litre of water on my hikes across England, Scotland, Wales and the U.S. and thus i very much appreciate all the help everyone has sent my way already.

North of England. The first section through the lake district is wonderful, its a glaciated landscape and of course is very green with idylic dry stone walls dividing up the pasture land. One reservation i have about that trail now is that it has become a tourist trail now, theres a few companies that will carry your bags from town to town for you.
For a real challenge, North Scotland is incredibly wild both in terrain and weather and there are lots of peaks over 3000ft.
I ve never hiked in the Wye Valley but further west of there in Wales there are some great places to trek such as the breacon beacons.I am going up to Yorkshire in 2 weeks to hike for a few days just to stretch my legs,I happen to live in the flattest county in the UK by cruel circumsances.If anyone wants some more info feel free to email me.

hey zammy,
I was talking to my friend tal the other day, i met him on the Appalachian trail last year and he was the one who planted the idea of hiking the INT in my head. He happened to mention that you gave him lots of information and advice before he went. I just thought it was funny how things come about.
As for my progress, things are coming along well. A few details about the negrev section need attention but that will happen much nearer the time.
p.s. in that last post i somehow missed out some text, i was trying to say that the English coast to coast is the best walk to do here.
